Dr. Porter-Richard has more than twenty years experience in the field of mind-body health care. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, with a Master's Degree (M.S.) in Psychological Counseling, and a Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Clinical Sexology. She is also a Licensed Massage Therapist, although she has not practiced for many years this experience contributes to the mind-body focus in the work she now does as a psychotherapist. This mind-body experience allows her to approach the work of therapy with a wide variety of people.
She has training, extensive experience, credentials, and/or certifications in the following areas: Disaster Mental Health, Anxiety-based Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatology, Dissociative Disorders, Chronic Pain, and an extensive body of knowledge and experience with Death and Dying and Grief and Bereavement issues. Treatment methods include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Insight-Oriented Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Hypnosis.
In addition to a busy practice, Dr. Porter-Richard is co-founder of Med-Ed Seminars, and provides continuing education programs in health-related fields for nurses, mental health counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and massage therapists.
