Group therapy is a method of treatment in which a small group of people meet regularly to talk, interact, discuss and solve problems with each other, guided by a therapist who guides the group in the direction of self-discovery. Groups may be either psychoeducational, which are focused on specific topics; or process oriented, which are focused on the experience of being in a group and sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences, while being guided toward personal growth. Group process provides an opportunity to learn and practice skills as they are developed, with the guidance of a therapist and support of the group. All therapy groups exist to help individuals grow emotionally and learn to more effective human beings.
